ABSTRACT
The study looked at the gender difference in mathematics among SHS students in the Sunyani and Techiman municipality. In cross-sectional study, 118 participants were randomly sampled from 4 senior high schools in two municipalities in the then Sunyani and Techiman. The participants included males (64) and females (54). The explanatory sequential mixed method approach was employed using an achievement test and semi-structured interview guide to collect both quantitative and qualitative data from the participants. The data were analysed using independent sampled t test to compare performance disparities by gender. The findings of the study revealed a significant difference in the mathematics achievement of students by gender. The male participants with a mean score of 75, outperformed their female counterparts with a mean score of 57. The study recommends the removal of barriers to the teaching and learning of mathematics among females. Also, the feminists’ examples must be adopted to make female students feel inclusive in the lessons. All students must equal access to the teacher during lesson delivery.
